Experience the definitive Sant Jordi at the centre of Andorra!

Experience the definitive Sant Jordi at the centre of Andorra!

At illa Carlemany we celebrate Sant Jordi in capital letters, from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 April, with fun activities for the kids, book presentations, a storytelling exhibition and, of course, the traditional books and roses.

Storytelling contest and exhibition

The Piolet Club has announced the 2nd Sant Jordi Storytelling Contest for kids, under the slogan “The dragon was actually killed by the princess”. A judging panel made up of representatives of illa Carlemany – the event sponsors – will select the winner and runner-up in each category. The six stories chosen will be put on show on the first floor from 6 pm, and the young winning authors will receive movie tickets and a selection of books.

Saturday kid’s workshops

Three Saturday workshops are on offer for the kids to enjoy. Firstly, from 11 am–2 pm, there will be puppet making of the legendary Sant Jordi dragon. Then, from 4 pm–6 pm, a book creation workshop. Lastly, from 6 pm–8 pm, the kids will make greeting cards with a poem. All workshops will have 15-minute rotations for a maximum of 8 participants at a time.

Express book presentations

On Saturday, from 5:30 pm, every half hour a writer will take the stage on the first floor of the centre, together with someone familiar with their work, to briefly explain why we should read their book. The titles to be presented are, in this order, Color dins la foscor, by Cecília Santañes; Aquí les penjaven, by Robert Pastor; Shanghai Andorra, by Joan Peruga and Txema Díaz-Torrent; Clava-la, by Maria Cucurull, and La Torre dels Russos, by David Gálvez. The authors will also sign copies of their books.

Stalls and storytelling with Andi

On Sunday we will have book and rose stalls open throughout the day, and at noon the Piolet Club’s storyteller Andi will tell the wonderful stories of the winning entries from their Storytelling Contest.
