The 10th edition of the running event Cursa Popular Illa Carlemany will take place on Sunday, May 19, during the ‘Sports Day for All’, organized by the Secretary of State for Sports of Andorra. It’s the biggest running event in Andorra.
All runners will start their 5 km race at 10:30 am, at the Avinguda Consell de la Terra d’Escaldes-Engordany, in front of the shopping centre. 10 minutes later the starting signal will sound for the shorter 2 km race, which is also open to children. The awards ceremony will be held at Andorra la Vella’s central park. Winners will not only get trophies, but also prizes and presents, lots and gift vouchers from Perfumería Júlia, sports shoes and footwear, trousers, shirts and sports bags from Salomon, fruit baskets from Caprabo and a ticket for two to see a movie at the Cinemes de l’Illa Carlemany. There will also be several draws for runners who registered and those who passed the finish line.
At 12:30 pm is the kick-off of the party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Cursa Popular. There will be food, children’s workshops, bouncy castles for the kids and Piolet, Violeta and Andi, characters of the Andorran TV show Club Piolet will also be there. Also, don’t miss the performance of local rock band Madretomasa
It is expected that more than 3,000 runners will participate in this year’s race. Each year more young people and families fill the streets of this part of the Principality with their athletic and supportive spirit. In addition to promoting the practise of sports as a good habit for the health of people of all ages during the ‘Sports Day for All’, the Cursa Popular Illa Carlemany also donates the proceeds from the sale of shirts for runners to the Andorran Food Bank and runners get a bag and a gift towel.
The race is supported by the municipalities of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, the Andorran Athletics Federation, the Andorran Red Cross and the companies Illa Carlemany, Flaix Andorra, Grandvalira, Vallnord – Pal Arinsal, Perfumería Júlia, Salomon and Caprabo.
