The spread of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown stopped the celebration of the 11th illa Carlemany People’s Race. Each year in spring, this family and sports event hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and sponsored by the shopping centre brings together more than three thousand people, coinciding with Sports Week for Everyone, a campaign that spreads word of the health benefits of practicing sport.
In view of the situation, the organisers and sponsor have reformulated the event while maintaining its essence: we can’t run all together through the streets and squares of Escaldes-Engordany and Andorra la Vella, but we can continue to practice sport individually or in small groups, while taking all the necessary health measures. As a result, this special week will be featuring the promotion of sport- and health-related messages and suggestions.
This is the culmination of a campaign that began on 10 September, when this year’s event and the image of the traditional commemorative t-shirt were released to the public. Available in blue, yellow and red, the colours of the Andorran flag, this year’s t-shirt has a special drawing that underscores the added importance of wearing a mask, frequent hand washing and social distancing.
The money raised from the t-shirt sales will be donated to a charity fund to mitigate the situation caused by COVID-19 in Andorra. And everyone who purchases a t-shirt will be entered into a draw for twenty-five illa Carlemany gift cards with a value of €50 each, and twenty sets of four cinema admission tickets, in addition to receiving a commemorative mask.
Just as the t-shirt reads, “Move your body safely and don’t give the virus legs to run on“.
